WeirdMusic.net - Silver Exclusive Interview:

Do you Like/Write Weird Music ?

Simon: I like some music that has a quirkiness to it, especially film scores. I once wrote & recorded a piece for a play that was done in a weird/horror type genre.

Ciaron: Dissonance in music interests me a great deal, and it's something I like to try and incorporate into our music. Is anything truly weird any more though?!

When and where did your experience in music start ?

C: I soaked in a lot of music growing up, but I'd have been about 10 years old before I thought about the idea of being a musician. I actually wanted to play the drums but I couldn't afford a drum kit. My dad had a guitar in the house so I gravitated towards that and the rest, as they say, is history!

S: For me, it started at school when I was about 14, I formed a band, did some recordings & played a couple of school events, so that's where it all started, really.

What are you currently working on and what are your plans for the rest of the year ?

S: As well as promoting our new single "Dear Prudence", we are currently finishing our debut album, & we hope to have another single out before the album is released. We are also getting ready to play live, so, exciting times ahead!!

What do you consider your greatest inspirational sources in music ?

C: Inspiration comes from all kinds of sources, and when you least expect it. You have your 'go-to' favourite bands that you can draw from and that's great, but then there's always other great stuff out there if you care to look for it.

S: Marc Bolan, early Roxy Music, David Bowie, Brian Eno, Adam Ant, Marco Pirroni, John Barry & Ennio Morricone.

Best Song Ever?

C: That's a question that's impossible to answer as each 'favourite' song is a favourite for often very different reasons.

S: It changes all the time, but at this moment in time, I would say it is 'Virginia Plain' by Roxy Music, but that could change by tomorrow or next week!

C: If I was pushed I would say that today it's 'The Great Cull' by Killing Joke.

Please describe your personal studio for us...

S: We both work on stuff from separate home studio set ups when it's not possible to be in the same room.

C: And the set up is pretty basic really, just a computer, some guitars and amps, a few mics, and a bunch of software... the usual stuff. We email ideas between ourselves which is nice sometimes, that kind of long- distance-working thing...

S: ...but you can't beat the magic of being in the same room when an idea starts to work & becomes something.

Do You Like Your Voice On Your Answering Machine ?

S: I don't have my own voice on my answering machine.

C: Me neither, but if I did I'm sure I would.

What are your favourite readings ?

C: The last thing I read was '11.22.63' by Stephen King. It wasn't quite what I was expecting but I loved it.

S: 'The Python Diaries' By Michael Palin & 'Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell - The Dangerous Glitter Of David Bowie, Iggy Pop & Lou Reed' By Dave Thompson, which I've just finished reading.

In your opinion, what role does the third sector, public and non-profit entities; have for music on the Internet ? (crazy semi-optional question)

C: If I understood the question I'm sure I'd have a very clever answer to give you!

Are you religious ?

S: I don't follow any particular religion.

C: I'd like to think that there's something that comes after death, but no, I'm not religious at all.

The person you would never want to meet ?

S: The Grim Reaper

C: I like Simon's answer so I'll say that too!

If you were another person would you be friends with you?

S: Yes.

C: Of course I would, I'm great!

What is your best physical attribute ?

C: My nose.

S: My height.

C: Did we really just answer that question?!

Do you have a secret talent and what is it ?

S: Not any I can think of.

C: Playing the guitar is enough for me. Actually, Simon does have a secret talent, but I'm not supposed to talk about it...

3 things you cannot live without ?

S: Music, sex & curry.

C: Love, respect and honesty.

Why you do THIS ?

C: Once you have music in your veins it's a very difficult thing to shake, it's the best drug the world has to offer.

S: Simply because I live for it. It's what I've always wanted to do.

What is one unique thing are you afraid of ?

S: When I was a kid, I was scared of Spider's webs, does that count?

C: Simon's secret talent. I've said too much already...

If you were a worm, how long would you be ?

C: The longest.

S: Too long!!!

Who is Wacky Jacky ?

S: I have no idea!!

C: And I have even less idea than that!

Anything else ???

C: Buy the single and spread the Silver word to the world.

"...In a world dominated by one dimensional pop music, Alex Ross-Iver defines everything that a music maverick should epitomise. His soul mates are the likes of Brian Eno, Phillip Glass, The Knife, Kraftwerk, Yello, through to Yonderboi and La Dusselldorf. In fact pretty much anything that doesn't fit neatly into a packaged music box that makes the listener feel comfortable and at ease. Alex Ross-Iver truly pushes the boundaries of experimentalism. It was his pulsating experimentalism and thought provokingly complex musical compositions which came to the attention of two equally maverick musicians. The Icelandic pair of Gisli Kristjansson, part of the hugely successful Waterfall production team out of Norway and a Number 1 hit maker in his own right, and the wonderfully talented Eliza Newman, whose band, Bellatrix, gained huge critical acclaim releasing albums on Bjork's , 'Bad Taste' label, turning her into one of Scandinavia's most talked about and sought after vocalists. Together they tracked Alex Ross-Iver down and asked if they could create a soundscape for one of his most complex tracks, 'Haused 2'. A track that if it were a book many would say it was impossible to turn it into a movie! Nevertheless, Gisli, Eliza and Alex have ended up creating a track which takes the listener on a magical mystery tour of their imaginations. 'Fire Inside' captures a feeling of tripping through clouds, chased by a Bond villain, finally ending up landing on an ice cap of emotion with a breathless vocal that oozes passion and dreams! This track embraces all the most magical elements of pop and avant garde experimentalism and will set Alex Ross-Iver on the road to finally translating success in the UK for a composer of thought provoking music that runs contrary to musical trends and passing fashions." - MusicCrown Magazine
