NEW YORK-BASED, UK-BORN EDWARD ROGERS
RELEASES FOURTH SOLO CD
‘PORCELAIN' ON ZIP RECORDS – OUT ON NOVEMBER 8, 2011

TITLE TRACK “PORCELAIN” PREMIERES ON BLURT ONLINE

VIDEO FOR “THE BIBA CROWD” AVAILABLE FOR POSTING, “THE BIBA CROWD” INCLUDED ON UK'S WORD MAGAZINE FREE NOVEMBER CD

“Without a doubt one of the most delightful surprises to land on the BLURT office stereo of late has been Porcelain by UK-born, NYC-based songwriter and classic pop maven Edward Rogers.”
-Blurt Online

On November 8, 2011, Edward Rogers will release Porcelain ,
his fourth solo album and his third for the independent Zip record label.  The eleven sonically distinctive compositions were all written and recorded within an 18-month period. “The title of the album” explains Rogers “directly reflects the emotions represented in the songs and my mood during the writing process – rage, love, broken friendships, good days, bad days…fun days.”  The album's title track, “Porcelain” premiered on Blurt Online last week, and can be heard here: http://blurt-online.com/news/view/5401/  Edwards has also released a video for the song “The Biba Crowd” which is currently available for posting and can be downloaded from (link).  “The Biba Crowd” is also available on the UK's Word Magazine free November CD.

All the songs on Porcelain were penned by Rogers, but also draw upon the talents of some notable kindred spirits. Don Piper, who co-produced the album with Rogers, is a celebrated songwriter and bandleader in his own right. James Mastro (guitar) was a founding member of both The Bongos and Health & Happiness Show and currently records and tours with Ian Hunter. Don Fleming (guitar) was the frontman for Velvet Monkeys, B.A.L.L. and Gumball and is also well known for producing Sonic Youth, Teenage Fan Club, among others. Bassist Sal Maida's extensive resume encompasses stints with Roxy Music and Sparks and he is a member of the band Cracker. Ira Elliot is the drummer for Nada Surf and the NY-based Bambi Kino. Pete Kennedy (guitar) is one half of the folk/pop duo The Kennedys and is currently recording and touring with Nanci Griffith. Drummer Konrad Meissner's credits include work with The Silos and Graham Parker. Keyboardist Joe McGinty has worked with everyone from the Psychedelic Furs to Ronnie Spector, and is the mastermind behind the long-running Losers Lounge series of all-star tribute shows, in which Rogers has long been a frequent performer. Claudia Chopek (violin/viola) has toured and recorded with Moby, TV on the Radio and Bruce Springsteen, among others.

This unique assortment of disparate talents come together to bring Edward Rogers' creative vision to vibrant musical life on Porcelain , adding another dynamic chapter to an already impressive body of work. Representing somewhat of a departure in style – both musically and lyrically -   Porcelain reveals Rogers' edgier side (‘The Biba Crowd,' ‘Separate Walls,' ‘Diamond Amour'), with echoes of the softer side shown on his past recordings ( ‘Nothing Too Clever,' ‘Tears Left In The Bottle,' The Silent Singer').

The New York-based Rogers, who spent the first twelve years of his life in Birmingham, England , says "I'm motivated by the urge to make music and express myself, rather than by some abstract idea of being some kind of pop star, so I feel like I'm making music for the right reasons."

EDWARD ROGERS - UKtop40charts.com / weirdmusic.net INTERVIEW:

- Do you Like/Write Weird Music ?

I luv all types of music.
There is no such a thing as weird music..just good and bad.

- When and where did your experience in music start ?
My first single as a kid -- I traded comic books to make money to buy records -- was “I wanna Be Your Man” by the Stones, which began my obsession as a music fan, which I still am to this day.….I am lucky to have people around me to learn from. Each day is a little experiment to try and push the button on music just a little more……the experience never stops.  I'm still a beginner and a lover of music.

- What are you currently working on and what are your plans for the rest of the year ?

Off to England next week to do some promotion on this record (Porcelain); have a record release gig on November 17th,2011 and
finishing off demos for the next record as these words are being read. More live shows next year if we get a buzz on this record.

- What do you consider your greatest inspirational sources in music ?

So many and the same  as most people, but for this record, I wanted a little bit of early Ian Hunter, John Cale, Kevin Ayers, to give a feel of music made in the early seventies.

- Best Song Ever ?
for today….not tomorrow……Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields forever, the greatest single ever made.

- Please describe your personal studio for us...

A mess, all very minimal/cheap equipment, I demo all my songs on Garage band and then take the songs to my producer, Don Piper, and work on getting the right musicians to give me the sound I want.  It's the people who make the music.

- Do You Like Your Voice On Your Answering Machine ?
YES, it took a few takes, but I think if you call me you get a feel of who I am without knowing me.

- What are your favorite readings ?
Again I'm a music fan so a lot of my reading is in that direction. I recently finished reading a Nicky Hopkins bio which I thought was really good.

- In your opinion, what role does the third sector, public and non-
profit entities; have for music on the Internet ? (crazy semi-optional question)

I  don't want to think too much on this question as I do work for a non for profit organization.

- Are you religious ?
YES, I have a lot of questions but somewhere inside someone is showing me the way….leading me thru the good and bad.

- The person you would never want to meet ?

Myself on a panic ridden day

- If you were another person would you be friends with you?

YES, I think I try to be a very good friend to those who allow me into their lives.

- What is your best physical attribute ?

These days, my face n hair.

- Do you have a secret talent and what is it ?
Bloody hell!…..my ability to get along with a lot of different / difficult people.

- 3 things you cannot live without ?

My wife, music n good food n wine…..see I'm not that hard to please!

- Why you do THIS ?

Only one word “LOVE” I just try to give back a little of the magic that music has given me.

- What is one unique thing are you afraid of ?

Breakdowns….I wear an artificial leg. On occasion my skin will start to blister, it's a horrible experience.

- If you were a worm, how long would you be ?

7 1/2 inches

- Who is Wacky Jacky ?

No idea, but if you see him, say “ello”

- Porn or Horn ?

Porn no horn

- Are you an Idiot ?
I try not to be.

- Does your grandmother wash HIMself ?
don't know , you'll have to ask them

- Do you hate your ex Girl/Boy Friend ?

NO

- Huh ??

You heard me!

- Anything else ???
Hope you give the record a listen and be honest about it…Cheers, e

Sparkle Lane Quotes

Sparkle Lane, with its autumnal strings and misty melancholy packs quite a psychological wallop. Sparkle Lane paints bittersweet miniatures – say the gorgeous floater “Passing The Sunshine” – approaching the hallowed territory of The Kinks’ “Village Green”.
Uncut Magazine (UK)

The impeccably crafted Sparkle Lane ranks as his best effort yet, a record that sits nicely alongside The Kinks' Village Green Preservation Society and The Zombies' Odessey and Oracle as precisely tuned art-hyphen rock at its finest.
M Music & Musicians Magazine

Edward Rogers writes effortless melodies like the Left Banke and Nick Lowe. The strings and vocal bits are like the Hollies’ “Butterfly” after hearing “Eleanor Rigby”.
The Big Takeover

Here’s another gorgeous album from Edward Rogers. This time combining a nostalgic trip through his own personal back pages, and a ramble far and wide across pop’s rich tapestry…lovely collections of a lost 60’s English childhood and reflections on a life of incident.
Bucketfull of Brains (UK)

Sparkle Lane is a delightful disc from beginning to end. It brims over with both a penchant for Anglophilia and a sense of lost innocence.
Beyond Race Magazine

Take some definite British roots, let them simmer in the New York City music scene, add in a splash of chamber pop and 1960’s influences and you’ve got the right mix for talented songwriter Edward Rogers. “Passing The Sunshine” which is slightly reminiscent of the Kinks and the Housemartins with a string section; the picturesque “Boys In Grey;” and the free-flowing pop of “Whatever You’ve Geen Told” are three of the loveliest songs anyone’s released this year and there’s more where those dame from sprinkled throught the disc.
Newhouse News Service

Ex-pat from Birmingham, now a New Yorker, Mr. Rogers – has dropped a jewel. Part soft pop-psych, part nervous-edged early Roxy Music, and always effortlessly melodic.
Shindig Magazine (UK)

Sounding musically like The Beatles, and lyrically like The Who, the Kinks, and XTC, Sparkle Lane is a mix of 14 fun little dittys that have a high repeat value.
Skope Magazine

On Sparkle Lane, his third album, he pens imaginative, well-arranged songs that straddle folk-rock, Kinks-style pop and Bowie-style glam. Distinctive, mildly oddball Brit singer-songwriter magic. 3 stars
Cultural Pilgrim blog

I have always been impressed by Rogers as a songwriter and this continues to hold true on Sparkle Lane. This album definitely has a lot of depth. Rogers may have started later than many of his peers, but he is definitely writing better material than quite a few of them.
CosmosGaming

Quirky pop verging on psychedelic, especially in the lyric department. Engaging in a slightly othewordly way, yet very familiar, especially in its Brit Pop-isms. A good cure for the sad autotuned pop sounds dominating the teenybopper stations these days.
Pirate Cat Radio 87.9fm

Sparkle Lane is quite frankly, one of the best albums I have heard in a long time. I get more excited with each track – this is the rare kind of experience that I had when I first heard such classic albums as The Beach Boys “Pet Sounds” and The Zombies “Odessey and Oracle.”
Preston’s Beat blog

Edward Rogers is ready for the spotlight on his third album. Rogers’ album entitled Sparkle Lane is a mix of brilliant chamber and indie pop.”
Amore Magazine.

The fun you’ll derive from picking out the sounds here (a good many of them provided by guitarist Pete Kennedy of The Kennedys) will very quickly be replaced by the pure joy you’ll experience listening to Edward Rogers.

"Ed Rogers loves pop music. you can tell because this record sounds like a glowing devotional to the art of the timeless melody. george usher and several guest star friends prop up the glorious tunage with their transcendent chording, while ed sends you into a timewarp with lyrics that recall the innocense of the first time you brushed your hand against a teenage cheek, and melodies that seem to have been kissed by the sun. it's all quite glorious, really."
