WeirdMusic.net EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWS
Seven Car Pileup has been presenting their high-energy, infectious rock to the Southwest since January 2007. Despite the blistering Arizona weather, the trio has brought fans out of heat hibernation often enough to become a notable part of the musical landscape.
Seven Car Pileup recently completed an EP with producer Bob Hoag (The Format, The Breakup Society, Black Carl, Dear and the Headlights, The Bled, Scary Kids Scaring Kids). The four song EP, Zombies With Dino, represents the band's signature up-beat, hook laden style. Elated to have that under their belts, Seven Car Pileup is now busy taking local venues by storm, winning fans from all walks of life.

WeirdMusic.net - 7 car pileup Exclusive Interview:
- Do you Like/Write Weird Music ??
I love weird music, but what is considered weird these days keeps changing. I certainly don’t make a point to make weird music. It just happens.
- When and where did your experience in music start?
Well this is just Mark, the vocalist guitarist, the other guys are tied up in my basement. My experience with music started with my Dad's vinyl collection. I grew up listening to a lot of "good" music (The Beatles, Jethro Tull, Jackson Browne), and some not so "good" music (Amy Grant, Captain and Tennille, Awful Jesus Loving era Bob Dylan). I think it's forever scarred me as one of the most eclectic musician in my dusty crappy state.
- What are you currently working on and what are your plans for the rest of the year ?
At this very moment I'm working on three things.
1. My band is writing new music which will hopefully eventually be recorded.
2. We're promoting the stuff we've already recorded.
3. I'm helping my fiancй’s klezmer band get off the ground.
- What do you consider your greatest inspirational sources in music ?
I'm really inspired by sad horrible feelings of self-doubt and also equally by irrational responses of hope in awful situations. I think that there is something wonderfully beautiful in saying everything is horrible but it’s going to be okay. I’m also inspired by other music. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a good band or artist and not wanted to do what they were doing (but slightly different). I just love creating and modifying and arranging and throwing things upside down to see what happens.
- Please describe your personal studio for us...
My personal studio is also my living room. It has stained concrete floors and a wooden ceiling, and sounds too good for what it is. Every time I record in it I say, “I’m always surprised how good this room sounds.” It’s a lot better than any studio I’ve had before. Oh, and my gear is nice for the way I work.
- What are your favorite readings ?
I grew up reading the Bible as my family was very religious, and there is a lot of peace and wisdom in there. By that same token I've found myself also drawn by Lao Tsu. I also love the Science Fiction Writers Orson Scott Card, and Ray Bradbury. They're like the Yin and Yang of Sci Fi. One day I'd love to make a Sci Fi musical...
- In your opinion, what role does the third sector, public and non-
profit entities; have for music on the Internet ?
I haven't ever thought about it. I kind of find myself fairly disillusioned by people who promise me they'll help me promote my music. They always seem to have good intentions, but it always seems like they're trying to take something from me.
- Who is Wacky Jacky ?
Google says he's a sports fisher. In my band it would probably be Jess (bass), at least outwardly. Although, truth be told, we're all pretty crazy.
- Should we Fork you twice or it's beter to Funk you once ?
Oh I'd say funk is always the best.
- Are you religious ?
I believe in God. I believe that the root of God is based in love. It has to be because creation is about love. However, I think that our relationship with God is very dysfunctional. I think religion is the source of that dysfunction. I think it's good to talk about God, or whatever we think the creator's name is. I think that it's good to have limits and restrictions so we don't hurt each other. I think there is a lot of good that most religions want to do... However, I don't think I've ever seen a religion that wasn't full of either disillusioned crazy people, or just awful mean people.
- Anything else ?
I love algebra, SUCKAS!!!
